Boutique quantities of many garlic varieties are grown at Frogshack Farm. Each season successful bulbs are offered to home enthusiasts to grow their own specialty garlic collection. Availability varies from season to season - some may not be available every year.

CULTURAL NOTES of garlic varieties grown at Frogshack Farm
TURBAN group
Plant April/May, early maturing, harvest mid Nov. Storage to Apr/May. Spicy raw. Roasted whole cloves mild and sweet. Great cooked whole.

- 'Italian Porcelain' (a brighter White Crookneck)
- 'Pink' - (syn 'Port Campbell Pink' or 'Rose du Var Hardneck')
- 'Tassie Purple' - a collection of purple Turban varieties collected from the 'who's who' of Tasmanian growers.
ARTICHOKE group
Mid season, plant May, medium storage approx Aug. Harvest mid-late Dec. Generally medium to hot flavour both raw and cooked. Artichokes require careful drying after harvest to avoid mildewed skins.

CREOLE group
Mid season, plant May/Jun, harvest around Christmas. Very long storage up to 12 months, deceptively plain wrap, exquisitely red cloves and superb flavour.
(Please be aware there is much name duplication in the garlic world - Creole garlic evolved in Spain and France and many are very similar if not the same, but the origin names remain fascinating!) Spanish translation: 'Rojo'= 'red' - male. 'Roja' = 'red' - female.

Mid season, plant May/Jun, harvest mid Dec, medium storage, approx August. Flavour medium to strong.

The best flavoured short storing garlic, aka 'serpent garlic'.
Plant May, harvest New Year. Store to May.

Robust, flavoursome, late harvest early Jan, great roasted
